Pakistan ISI chief Faiz Hameed : The Pakistan Army said in an official statement that the court martial procedure “has been initiated,” marking a first for the history of the nation.
After being placed under military custody on Monday, Pakistan‘s army declared that Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed, the former head of the intelligence agency and a former prime minister under the now-incarcerated Imran Khan, had been arrested.
The Pakistan Army said in an official statement that the court martial procedure “has been initiated,” marking a first for the history of the nation.
On the directive of the Pakistani Supreme Court, the case against Hameed was brought to light. The Pakistan Army’s propaganda wing went on to say that since his retirement, “multiple instances of violation” of the Pakistan Army Act have been identified and documented.
ISI chief Faiz Hameed is also charged with breaking into the establishments of Top City, a private real estate developer, according to Supreme Court documents released last year.
The developer was given an order by the court at the time to file his objections with the Ministry of Defense.
The private housing scheme Top City’s administration claimed in a November 2023 appeal that Hameed planned an attack on the owner’s apartment and offices.
In a plea, Top City stated that under the guise of a terrorist case, Pakistan Rangers and ISI agents invaded its facilities in May 2017 and took items, including gold and diamond jewelry.
A story published by Dawn states that the petitioner was later told by General Faiz Hameed that he would return certain goods, but not “400 tola gold and cash.”
In addition, the petition charges ex-ISI officials with taking part in the “illegal takeover of the housing society.”
The former head of the ISI and his brother were being investigated for possible corruption, according to a statement made in March 2024 by the former interior minister of Pakistan, Rana Sanaullah.
A commission of investigation was formed by the military in April to look into claims of abuse of power made against the former spymaster.
In November 2022, Dawn reported that Lieutenant-General Faiz Hameed was one of the six senior generals who were shortlisted for the top two military jobs.
Four months ahead of his planned retirement date, he nevertheless chose to retire early and submitted his resignation to the high command in the same month.
