The Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 will convene on September 18, 19, and 20 in the Parliament House Annexe in the nation’s capital city of New Delhi, as per a formal announcement released by the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
A number of specialists and interested parties, including Pasmanda Muslim Mahaaz, All Indian Muslim Personal Law Board, and Prof. Faizan Mustafa, Vice Chancellor of Chanakya National Law University in Patna, will provide their comments or suggestions to the committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 on September 19. The committee will record oral testimony from members of the Ministry of Minority Affairs on September 18.
The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 will be the subject of proposals from the All India Sajjadanashin Council, Ajmer, Muslim Rashtriya Manch, Delhi, and Bharat First, Delhi, to the Joint Parliamentary Committee on September 20. The fourth meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) was held on September 6, 2024, with the purpose of reviewing the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024.
During the meeting, the Joint Parliamentary Committee was given a presentation by senior Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) personnel. Several parties offered their views, thoughts, and oral testimony for the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. These parties included the Telangana Waqf Board and the Zakat Foundation of India. The Waqf Board’s properties are not being used, according to JPC panelist and Shiv Sena (Shinde group) leader Naresh Mhaske, who made this claim after the meeting.
“For this reason, the Waqf Board Amendment Bill has been introduced. We, the committee members, are considering it, and it will shortly be presented for approval in the Parliament. ASI was there at the conference as well. According to ASI, the Waqf has made unsupported claims on numerous properties that the Indian government had previously protected,” Mhaske told ANI.
Opposition parties have continuously opposed the Waqf Board Amendment Bill during JPC meetings, sparking lively debates and a commotion. Naresh Mhaske claims that the opposition is competing to see who can oppose the amendment bill with the most number of speeches and voices.

Mhaske claims that the Zakat Foundation and the Telangana Waqf Board both took the same stance and offered justifications against amending the Waqf Board bill. During the conference, lawmakers from the opposition parties and the ruling party engaged in heated debates regarding additional changes to the bill.
