Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) conducted its second missile attack on Israel in less than six months, hitting military bases on Tuesday. This attack, dubbed Operation True Promise II, was more technologically sophisticated and strategic in nature than Iran’s first strike in April.
Key Differences Between April And October Attacks:
Iran utilized hypersonic missiles for the first time in Operation True Promise II, replacing the older technology drones and ballistic missiles used in the April strike. This latest strike used a greater range of modern weapons.
Iran targeted isolated military bases in April, but this time it was urban centers near Tel Aviv. Iran claimed a 90% success rate in striking its objectives in this current attack, despite Israel’s superior defense systems, in contrast to the high interception rate of missiles in April.
A Palestinian man was killed in the West Bank after being struck by debris from an Iranian missile. Despite no confirmed Israeli casualties, the attack’s proximity to populated areas suggests that Israel’s next response could be significantly more broad and deadly.
With Israeli citizens under direct threat, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is anticipated to take a tougher position than after the April incident, potentially escalating the conflict with Iran. Resistance groups around the Middle East applauded Iran’s operation, boosting the prospect of expanded involvement from Hezbollah, Hamas, and other regional allies.
