Mithun Chakraborty News: Legendary actor Mithun Chakraborty receives the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian cinema.
Famous Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty will receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the age of 74, according to a Monday announcement made by Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. In addition, Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the actor’s “unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema,” so recognizing him as a cultural icon.
“ Delighted that Shri Mithun Chakraborty Ji has been conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, recognizing his unparalleled contributions to Indian cinema. He is a cultural icon, admired across generations for his versatile performances. Congratulations and best wishes to him,” PM Modi said on X while reposting the IB Minister’s original announcement of the Dadasaheb Phalke Awards.
“Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema (SIC),” the IB Minister had earlier said on X.
In response to the news, several Mithun Chakraborty admirers expressed their congratulations to “Mithun Da.” A person commented that Mithun Chakraborty ought to have won the prize a long time ago.
Mithun Is 54th Winner of The Dadasaheb Phalke Awards
The actor will receive the honor during the October 8th event of the 70th National Film Awards. Mithun Chakraborty is the 54th recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. In 1969, The award was founded in honor of Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema.
Past recipients of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award before Mithun Chakraborty included 53 industry heavyweights from the Bollywood, film, and music industries, including Raj Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, and Yash Chopra. Dadasaheb Phalke Award: 2021 went to actor Waheeda Rehman.

Ahead of the Assembly elections, the actor-turned-politician joined the BJP after defecting from Mamata Banerjee’s All India Trinamool Congress party in April.
Mithun Chakraborty made his acting debut in the Mrinal Sen-directed movie Mrigayaa, which won the 1976 National Award. For the movie, he took home his first-ever National Film Award for Best Actor. Mithun Da received the Padma Bhushan Award earlier this year.
With Bollywood songs like Disco Dancer, Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki, and Commando, among others, the actor catapulted to fame in the 1980s. Fans dubbed Mithun the “Disco Dancer” because of his legendary dancing moves to Bollywood hits like “I Am a Disco Dancer” and “Jimmy Jimmy.”
