“Heavy rains in some low-lying areas led to waterlogging and disruption of suburban train services,” the BMC stated in a statement.
The BMC has proclaimed a vacation for the first session of all BMC, government, and private schools and institutions in Mumbai in order to minimize disruption for students. It further stated that after evaluating the circumstances, a decision would be made on the following session.
On Monday, July 8, Mumbai is expected to get moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the day, with the possibility of thunderstorms at night, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
For the next three to four days, Maharashtra should continue to see intense rainfall, according to the weather service. From July 8 to July 10, there will likely be a lot of rain in Madhya Maharashtra and the Marathwada region.
Mumbai rains: Train services impacted
Suburban services provided by Central Railway were impacted on Monday morning by waterlogging at stations and on tracks due to heavy rainfall in Maharashtra.
The Central Railway Public Relations Officer (CRPO) stated in a statement that there are disruptions to train services at Sion and between Bhandup and Nahur stations. Trains were halted for about an hour because rainwater was above the railroad tracks. Although trains are already running, services are still impacted by the somewhat receding water.
The suburban segment is now running normally after the Western Railway revealed that they used high-capacity water pumps to drain water off the tracks. It stated that there are speed limits on the trains traveling between Kalyan and Kasara.

An alert was released by Vistara and IndiGo for travelers arriving or departing from Mumbai.
IndiGo stated in a tweet on X (previously Twitter) that “Heavy rains are affecting flights to and from Mumbai.” to get a complete refund or choose a different flight.
Similar advice was shared by Vistara on X, saying, “Due to the weather, heavy traffic congestion and slow vehicle movement are expected en route to Mumbai Airport today.” It is recommended that customers give themselves extra time to get to the airport.”
