Jammu and Kashmir News: Renowned IPS officer Nalin Prabhat became the force’s commander when R R Swain retired on September 30. The Jammu and Kashmir Police nominated him as Special Director General.
Beginning in October, Nalin Prabhat, a decorated IPS officer, will serve as the Special Director General of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The news followed shortly after the Home Ministry terminated his appointment as the Director General of the National Security Guard to the AGMUT cadre.
The Home Ministry has made public an order transferring the Andhra Pradesh cadre officer to Jammu and Kashmir with “immediate effect.” On September 30, RR Swain will retire, and he will assume leadership. “Initial for three years from the date of joining the AGMUT cadre,” the transfer was declared.
The appointment takes place at a time when several deadly skirmishes and terrorist encounters have shaken the Kashmir Valley. We expect the newly appointed DGP to take a tactical approach to local law enforcement.

IPS Nalin Prabhat’s birthplace was Manali’s Thungri Villages in 1968. He graduated from St. Stephen’s College with an M.A. and a B.A. (Honors).
Since April 2024, IPS Nalin Prabhat, an Indian Police Service officer from the 1992 batch, has held the position of NSG DG. The 55-year-old has had a stellar career filled with numerous honors, such as the Parakram Padak and three Police Gallantry Medals.
He has a long history of counterinsurgency operations and was the former commander of the Greyhounds, Andhra Pradesh’s highly specialized anti-Naxal group. Over the past few months, there has been an increase in terrorist activity in Jammu and Kashmir.
