Vinesh had taken down the invincible defending champion, Japan’s Yui Sasaki, before asserting dominance over her Ukrainian and Cuban opponents in the quarter-final and semi-final respectively on Tuesday. Vinesh had thus become the first Indian woman to reach a wrestling final at the Olympics.

Meanwhile, Mirabai Chanu, the 2020 Olympic silver medallist, will compete in the women’s 49kg weightlifting division. The 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist may not be an overwhelming favorite in a contest dominated by China’s Hou Zhihui, the current Olympic champion, after battling multiple fitness concerns since Tokyo 2021.

There will be plenty of Indian athletic activity in the legendary Stade de France. Avinash Sable is scheduled to compete in the 3000m steeplechase final, while Jyothi Yarraji, Praveen Chitravel, Annu Rani, and other athletes will be competing in qualification.

In the afternoon, the Indian women’s table tennis team, which consists of Manika Batra, Archana Kamath, and Sreeja Akula, will play Germany.
