Sitaram Yechury , 72, is receiving treatment in AIIMS’s ICU for an acute respiratory tract infection.
Sitaram Yechury, the general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), is critically ill and is receiving respiratory support at AIIMS in Delhi, his party announced on Tuesday. The AIIMS ICU is treating 72-year-old Yechury for an acute respiratory tract infection, the hospital said in a statement.
The party also stated that a multidisciplinary team of physicians is actively monitoring his status, which is serious right now. “He needs breathing help. His status is being closely monitored by a multidisciplinary team of doctors, and it is now critical, according to the official release from the CPI-M.
On August 19, Sitaram Yechury was hospitalized to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to receive treatment for a chest infection that resembled pneumonia. The hospital has not disclosed the precise nature of his condition.
Yechury’s condition was previously said by the CPI-M to be stable and to be positively responding to the treatment.Yechury had just had a cataract operation. In addition, on August 22, he recorded a 6-minute video statement following the passing of former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya.
A statement of unity between the CPI-M, Congress, and National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir for the impending assembly elections was posted by Yechury a day later.
One year after joining the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), he became a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in 1975. While still a student at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), he was detained during the Emergency. From 1977 to 1988, he presided over the JNU Students’ Union three times.
Yechury and Prakash Karat are recognized for having increased the number of leftists at JNU. The 72-year-old politician is acknowledged for carrying on former General Secretary Harkishan Singh Surjeet’s legacy of forming coalitions.
He was a key figure in the formation of the United Progressive Alliance government in 2004 and co-wrote the common minimum agenda for the United Front administration in 1996. Yechury recently launched an attack on the Union government, charging it with trying to infiltrate RSS members in order to achieve its goals.
